Check Dead Confederate Out

You know when you hear some new band for the first time, be it live or by a cd, and something about the music just fits perfectly into the scheme of things? I know that is completely vague, but I am trying to get at the idea of a unique style of music, one that has every aspect you'd prefer to hear combined into one solid band?

Well, if you are a fan of a band with a, intense stage presence, in your face power drumming, gritty bass and crunchy guitar thrown together with a chilling organ and ghostly reverberating slide guitar and a lead singer who can wail some of the most gut wrenching notes, go fucking check out Dead Confederate immediately.

I've been a fan of Dead Confederate since I first saw them 2 years ago at Chi Phi in our basement.  Since then I have been to almost 10 shows and probably burned out playing their debut album Wrecking Ball at the highest volume I can take.

The essence of Dead Confederate comes from their live show.  Some say they are the next Nirvana, but I believe they embody their own style of rock music far beyond any band out there. Simply hearing the CD is genius, however after seeing them live, the energy, passion, and true character that Dead Confederate exhibits at every single show makes the band legendary.

I use the term legendary to describe, in my own musical opinion, I near perfect example of a band I want to hear and that I want to influence my own playing.  I can't get enough of their CD, and I enjoy their live act even more every time I see them take the stage and shake the 40 Watt.
Not to mention, I've met each of them when they've played at my house, helping out stringing guitars and even giving them my equipment when they had a problem, and they are some of the most level headed musicians who know what they want to do and most importantly have fun in doing it.  Everyone of them is a cool mother fucker.

SO to end this kinda first band review and my first real post discussing my experience with music, influences and creativity, I just want to say get out there and give Dead Confederate a listen. They are heading Ath Fest in June, make almost monthly appearances in their home town, Athens, GA, and their CD is on I-Tunes.

Oh, and if you want to really enjoy this band in their true fashion, crank that volume fucking all the way up!

First Post

My name for now is Mothball, I am a student at the University of Georgia majoring in Economics through the Terry College of Business.  I live in Athens because I go to school here.

Basically, while studying so much I keep wanting to document my ideas, opinions, and personal experiences about music and concerts.   So in starting this, I want to first say I love music.

I have played guitar for the past 8 years, and continue to expand my musical abilities into song writing, playing drums, as well as picking up a little bass.

I have played in multiple bands since highschool, but unfortunately I have been unable to really get anything going in college and around Athens. (Which is pitiful considering the opportunities Athens contains and the incredible Music scene it has become known for)

This blog I hope will grow to document every concert I go to from now on, with some recapping of favorite concerts and some insight into my progress to develop myself as a musician.  To those if any who read my blog, I hope you can share in the sensation and magic that is music.

I gotta study more now, 4 tests this week! But later today I will try to post a full list to start this off with every single concert I have been to up until this point.
